Lavender Heart Cookies
Note/Suggestions:Lavender is often linked to love in ancient folklore, these heart shaped cookies pull it all together for Valentine’s Day. I just pick the lavender from my garden. For a quick and easy gift idea print this recipe onto a piece of paper and attach it to a copper heart shaped cookie cutter.Ingredients:
- ½ cup butter
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 ½ cups all purpose flour
- 2 Tbsp fresh lavender or 1 Tbsp of dried culinary lavender, roughly chopped
- 2Tbsp sanding sugar or super fine sugar for dusting cookies
- In a large bowl of a standing mixer or a large bowl and using an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Slowly add the flour and the lavender. Let the dough chill for at least 15 minutes before you roll it out.
- Preheat the oven to 400F.
- On a clean, lightly floured surface roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick. Using a 2 inch heart shaped cookie cutter cut out 18 cookies. You may have to re-roll the dough at some point, but do not roll it out more than two times.
- Place the cookies 1-2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
- Bake for 10 minutes or until just golden brown. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with sanding sugar and let rest for 5 minutes on the cookie sheet. Move to a wire rack to completely cool.
