I am in the throes of the Spring Sports Schedule. I don’t know why it is that the spring sports schedule seems more hectic than the fall but it does. Maybe it is because there seems to be a break between summer swim team and football or maybe it is because there is an overlap of winter sports and extracurricular activities I don’t have at the beginning of the school year. Either way it is busy and I am not alone. Many of the moms I see, in passing, are racing from practice to game to pick up and trying to figure out dinner on the fly. Here are few tips I have picked up on the way and a few easy dinner solutions.
Tip:
- Pack up a bag with all the supplies you need to get through the day: (maybe extras if you have little kids with you too.)
- Team contact numbers including the coach’s and a back up ride home for your child if need be.
- Sunscreen
- Hat
- First aid kit
- Extra shoe laces
- Pony tail holder or head bands (for girls)
- Extra mouth guards
- Extra cup (for boys)
- Towel
- Something to sit on (I recommend getting a folding chair with umbrella)
- Rain poncho and umbrella
- Sweatshirt
- Wipes
- Water
- Snack bars and dried fruit-nonperishable healthy snacks
- Book or magazine
- Disposable camera (because you never remember the good one when you need it)
- Blanket for other kids to sit on and activities for them to do like coloring or puzzles
- Soup, grilled cheese sandwich and a salad
- Scrambled Eggs, toast and vegetables
- Pasta with Peas and parmesan Cheese and a salad
- Cold Roast Chicken, Potato Salad and Green Salad (all made during the day when the kids are at school)
- Hors’ d oeuvre Platter: Leftover cold roasted meats, cold cuts, cheese, pickled vegetables, salad, whole grain bread and crackers
- Crockpot Solutions: everything is done without much fuss.
