It occurred to me today that many people do not know how to get information on food and product recalls.  We often hear about these recalls once they have made it to the mainstream news desks, and usually only after there has been an incident of some sort that has made it newsworthy.

But as a parent, consumer, food eater and preparer, I want to know this information as soon as possible so that I can make more informed decisions when purchasing food or equipment for my family and home.  So I figured you all would like to do the same thing.

Often times we hear about how the government does not do enough to keep us informed on these subjects, however the FDA and USDA actually have a great system to keep you informed, you just need to know about it, kind of a “catch 22” of sorts.

Use the links below and follow the instructions to receive updates on:
  • food recalls
  • regulation changes on how foods should be handled
  • product recalls
  • health alerts
It is easy, informative and constant.  You can choose daily, weekly, monthly updates or by the minute if you choose.  I hope this helps. Here are the links:

By the way, today, May 13, 2008 there is a recall on quite a lot of ground beef packaging due to plastics in the meat.  Take a look at the list and check your recent purchase of ground beef.  Hope all is well at your house, until next time…
