Bubble Gum Ice Cream vs Zucchini |

So my mother-n-law shows up yesterday with treats in hand. It is the usual MO, and mostly I am fine with it; it comes with the territory of marriage. This Sunday was extra special, the lovely woman brought over blue ice cream with gum balls in it, along with chocolate hearts. That wouldn’t be so bad, but two weeks ago she brought over reduced fat Cheese Its and Skinny Cow pops. Doesn’t she know I am currently getting my certification as a nutritionist? I hate being put in the situation of telling the kids that the food their grandmother thinks is “healthy” or “just fine” is really CRAP!
So the kids get home from school and of course want the bubble gum ice cream. I give in, I rationalize that they will eat it at sometime and it is too late to throw it out. It looks so gross, so gross that I can’t even look. My 8 year old son is encouraging me to taste it. “It is so good mom you should really try it.” I protest and still say no. He argues back with…”if you (meaning me) were eating zucchini (which he finds disgusting), you would insist I take a bite to try it, what is the difference?” His logic is sound, but I just cannot. I offer him instead a sort of get out of jail free card for the next time I want him to try a disgusting looking vegetable. I task my husband with speaking with his mother about the CRAP. He is much better at that communication than I am, apparently I am too direct.

| How about the next time you visit your m-i-l you bring the kids over with healthy snacks, finger paint and the number where you can be reached in case of an emergency. | |

| That is actually good rationale LOL. I think I would be grossed out by blue ice cream also. I hide zucchini in my kids food thus eliminating this type of argument. |
