Picking a Children's Vitamin
It is often difficult to make sure that your kids are maintaining a healthy, well-balanced diet and receiving the proper amount of vitamins and minerals. It can be an even bigger challenge today due to children eating away from home, at school, friend’s houses and fast food restaurants. So I supplement with a comprehensive multivitamin with probiotic to help maintain my children’s health and improve their immunity. And since my kids are not big dairy eaters, I also supplement with a comprehensive calcium supplement. What I Look For When Picking a Children’s Vitamin:
1. Content and Ingredient:I am looking for the vitamins and essential minerals that will support my child’s immune system, cognitive learning and help them maintain physical and mental energy throughout the day. I also don’t want certain ingredients like aspartame, high sugar, iron and fillers.
2. Efficiency of Absorption:A vitamin/mineral supplement must be easily absorbed and assimilated into the body efficiently for optimal benefits. Many capsules and tablets must be dissolved in the stomach taking up to 6 hours to be absorbed into the body, if they in fact survive the hydrochloric acid of the stomach.
3. Palatability:If your children won’t take them, then what good are they?
4. Convenience:I want a supplement that is easy for my children to take every morning, easy to take with me when I travel and easy to keep fresh.
5. Price:With a limited budget, like most families, I am looking for the best quality within my budget.
My choice is Isotonix® Might-A-Mins® Children’s Multivitamins.Isotonix® Might-A-Mins® contains 12 vitamins and 10 essential minerals, along with phytonutrients from a proprietary blend of fruits and vegetables*. Also added to the formula is a special blend of probiotics, the "good bacteria" essential for proper digestion. Iron has been eliminated from the Might-A-Mins formula due to its potential toxicity, especially for children under six, and also because kids usually get plenty of iron from the foods that they eat. *Note, children should still be eating plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
Special care has been taken in selecting the proper nutritional ingredients. For example, the beta-carotene contains other naturally occurring carotenoids that include a healthy dose of lutein and zeaxanthin, which are both proven to support healthy vision and promote healthy eyes. The Vitamin E that is included in the formula, d-Alpha tocopheryl succinate, is naturally occurring, and found to be the best source of Vitamin E, when working in coordination with support nutrients.
Absorption and efficiency of nutritional supplements are also two important features to examine when selecting a nutritional supplement and Isotonix® Might-A-Mins® contains both. This supplement is in the form of an isotonic fluid, which ensures that the nutrients are efficiently absorbed. It is usually taken on an empty stomach and when the isotonic fluid enters the body, it is delivered to the small intestine, nutritionally concentrated. Then it is quickly absorbed into the blood stream maximizing the amount used by the body.
Isotonix® Might-A-Mins® does have added fructose, the sugars found in fruit. It is the equivalent of two small grapes…I can live with that because it definitely makes it more palatable, thus my children take them without complaint; the flavor is similar to Tang (remember Tang?).
Isotonix® Might-A-Mins® comes in powder form. The cap is the measuring “spoon” and the over cap is the drinking cup with a clearly marked line to indicate the amount of water needed per serving. What could be easier? It is also very easy to travel with as it is in powder form and won’t get gooey if it gets too hot or really hard if it gets too cold; won’t break if it is shaken; and does not need refrigeration.
Sometimes the deciding factor is price…can I afford a great vitamin/mineral supplement for my kids? Well it is definitely cheaper to stay healthy than be sick, but tell that to my wallet. These vitamins are less than $10.00 for a 30 day supply. Yup, that is a pretty great deal!
So, yes, every morning my children take Isotonix® Might-A-Mins® Children’s Multi-Vitamins, Omega-3 and every night they take a calcium supplement.
On a side note, every day I take the Isotonix Multi-Vitamin for adults, a calcium supplement, Omega-3 and probiotics myself.
