Child Nutrition Act Reauthorization

On June 30, 2004, President Bush signed the Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act of 2004 into law (Public Law 108-265). This law required all school districts that participate in the National School Lunch Program to have local wellness policies in place by July 1, 2006. This program also provides the tools to help assist the school community to implement this policy. On September 30, 2009 it is set to expire. Before then, congress will meet to review this law and decide its fate. If you want to see this law reauthorized, sign this petition and have your voice heard.

"We believe that federally funded nutrition programs should provide all children with the healthy food they deserve. This includes low fat and safe dairy, fresh fruits and vegetables, and whole grains. Schools should be soda and junk-food-free zones and serve food that complements and furthers parents' efforts to feed their children healthfully." Hungry for Change is championing this cause and it is a really great cause. While many of the school lunch programs have improved there is still more to be done to provide healthy and nutritious meals for our growing children and work towards ending our national epidemic of childhood obesity.

Here is a great interactive tool from Hungry for Change you can share with your kids, post on you PTA/PTO website, share with your friends.
