6 Things to Consider When Buying a Lunch Box/Bag

What to look for:
  • Lead free
  • BPA free
  • Phthalates free
  • Washable in some way
  • Sturdy
  • Sized to accommodate your child’s food needs
Next decide what is important to you.
  • Insulated vs. not?
  • Super hero or animated character vs. plain vs. customizable?
  • Does your child lose things easily (more easily than most) or can they be responsible with a higher cost lunch box/bag?
  • Are you just packing snack or just lunch or both?
  • Organic sustainable materials that will be recycled when you are finished with it? (YIKES!)
  • Sturdy and indestructible?
Personally I have found I need two lunch boxes/bags per child. I have not found a lunch box yet that has lasted a whole school year, or meets every lunch day’s needs, but I am still looking. However, I have found some great bags and containers over the past two years.

Ecobags and EasyLunchBoxes have bags that can be customized by your child after it gets home. You can use fabric markers and creative name tags so that your child’s bag is one of a kind.

KidsKonserve and EcoLunchBags have beautiful printed cloth bags.

You can get your child’s name or initials embroidered on to their lunch bags from Lands End and LLBean.

Both EcoBags and ReUseit have a big selection of different bags to choose from, all of which are eco-friendly.

And of course there are all the special deals starting to unfold and fundraising opportunities for your school. I will be adding to this list over the next few weeks, stay tuned!
